My Life as Abraham Lincoln
Directed by Shari Berman
In this dark, surreal comedy, Cindy Rossberg (Caroline Luft) has apparently killed her fiancé (Trevor Nelson) on her wedding day. As she attempts to move forward with her life, she finds reality too difficult to contend with as she is bound to the events of the past and spirals into a wacky world of bizarre situations. In the end, Cindy discovers that she must act as her own emancipator in order to free herself from the role she thinks she is expected to play.
Directed by Chris Benker
In this film, a mischievous mermaid (Georgiana Avram) washes up in modern day New York where she seduces a struggling novelist (Peter Hertsgaard). In an attempt to help him visualize the characters in his book, she actually brings them to life. Imagination and reality intertwine in this twisting romantic narrative.
NYWIFT programs, screenings and events are supported, in part, by grants from New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, and New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
