NYWIFT University: Kickstarter School
Whether your film is in need of funds, fans, or both, this presentation by Kickstarter's Film Program Director Elisabeth Holm will cover the basics of running a successful and meaningful Kickstarter campaign! You’ll learn not only how to reach your funding goal, but also—just as important!—how to use this funding platform as a space to grow and connect with your audience. 

It doesn't matter if you're new to the funding platform, or you've already run one campaign and are ready to launch another, you’ll benefit from this presentation on best practices and case studies, followed by a Q&A. Please bring ideas and questions! We hope you'll leave ready (and excited!) to start your project.

Kickstarter is the world's largest funding platform for creative projects. Every week on Kickstarter, tens of thousands of people pledge millions of dollars and help bring creative projects from the worlds of film, music, art, technology, design, publishing and other creative fields to life.

The Kickstarter community features projects by Oscar winners, TED Fellows, New York Times bestsellers, Pulitzer Prize finalists, and thousands of others. Kickstarter is open to creative projects big and small, serious and whimsical, traditional and avant-garde.

Film & Video is the largest creative category on Kickstarter, accounting for $50 million of the $150 million pledged by 1.25 million backers since Kickstarter's 2009 launch. Seventeen Kickstarter projects screened at Sundance 2012, three shortlisted for Academy Awards, and another 30 are headed to SXSW. Whether seeking funds for development, production, post-production, festival submissions, marketing, distribution or more, Kickstarter helps filmmakers expand and engage their audience, building a lasting community of supporters around their work.

Elisabeth Holm (pictured above) is an independent producer and writer as well as Director of the Film Program at Kickstarter, where she's responsible for film project curating and editorial, special events, filmmaker relations, and outreach to film organizations and institutions. She most recently produced Keith Miller's Welcome to Pine Hill, a 2011 IFP Labs participant and 2012 Slamdance Grand Jury Prize winner. Previously supporting HBO, @radical.media, Cine Mosaic, and PBS productions, she most notably served as the Associate Producer of Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky's Oscar-nominated Paradise Lost 3, as well as Director’s Assistant for OWN’s Master Class and Sundance Channel’s Iconoclasts. Her writing has appeared in Time Out New York and Filmmaker Magazine, among other outlets.
