The Women in Film and Television International (WIFTI) Short Film Showcase (Short Case) is an International, members only showcase. WIFTI’s mission is to provide public screenings of our members work on or around March 8th of each year as part if International Women’s Day.
NYWIFT is part of WIFTI and therefore all NYWIFT members are welcome and encouraged to submit!
International Women’s Day is an occasion when women on all continents, often divided by national boundaries and by ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic and political differences, come together to celebrate their day. It is a time when women can look back to a tradition that represents years of struggle for equality, justice, peace and development. This date is also commemorated at the United Nations and is designated in many countries as a national holiday. While International Women’s Day is the story of ordinary women as makers of history, it is rooted in the centuries-old struggle of women to participate in society on an equal footing with men. The idea of an International Women’s Day first arose at the turn of the twentieth century, which in the industrialized world was a period of expansion and turbulence, booming population growth and racial ideologies. Women’s suffrage and calls for peace were the initial reasons behind the declaration of International Women’s Day.
All submissions this year will be processed through FilmFreeway.com. Films must have been completed in the past 2 years, 2015 or 2016. The Director must be female, and WIFTI encourages submissions featuring strong female characters and storylines. WIFTI would also like to see what other females were involved in the making of the film; Actresses, Producer, Director of Photography, Animators, Editors, etc.
The deadline to receive films will be January 7th, 2017.
As part of the submission process filmmakers must include which Chapter they belong and the contact information for the Membership Director of their Chapter (for NYWIFT, the contact is Katie Chambers at firstname.lastname@example.org) to verify their current enrollment. WIFTI will contact your Chapter to verify your current membership status.
FOR SPECIFIC QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SHOWCASE PLEASE REACH OUT TO WIFTI AT Meighan@BestGirlFriday.net. THE NYWIFT OFFICE IS NOT MANAGING THE SUBMISSIONS. THANK YOU!
