DESIGNING HOLLYWOOD
2007 took place on June 18th.
Honorees were make-up artist Toy Russell Van Lierop, costume designer Sharen Davis and hair stylist Michelle Johnson — all of whom have left their creative marks on recent popular and critically-acclaimed films and television series.  Hits like Dreamgirls, The Nutty Professor and Sex and the City owe much of their distinctive looks to these talented women.

Sharen Davis
is known for her attention to detail, which has made her a favorite with directors. She's designed Taylor Hackford's Ray; Denzel Washington's directorial debut, Antwone Fisher; and last year's hit musical , Dreamgirls. Other credits include Out Of Time, Beauty Shop, Devil In A Blue Dress, Nutty Professor II: The KlumpsRush Hour, the remake of Dr. Doolittle  and The Pursuit Of Happyness. For television, her credits include Grace And Glorie (Gena Rowlands, Diane Lane), Nightjohn  (Beau Bridges),  Zooman (Louis Gossett Jr.,Charles S. Dutton), State Of Emergency, Laurel Avenue and the creepy thriller, Nightmare on the 13th Floor.

Michelle Johnson
has created memorable hairstyles for some of television's biggest series — Sex and the City (two Emmy nominations), Project Runway, Spin City and Hope and Faith.  Her film work is just as distinctive — Kate Winslet's multicolored locks in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Gretchen Mol's raven tresses, turning her from fair-haired into the title character of The Notorious Betty Page. Johnson's other credits  include Little Children, Mona Lisa Smile, The Last Days of Disco, National Treasure, Capote, Prime and All the King's Men . She's become the favorite of the glamorous young star Jessica Alba.  She's styled the actress's hair for four films, including the upcoming supernatural thriller, The Eye.

Toy Russell Van Lierop has a remarkable career spanning two decades. Her body of work includes more than 30 films, including The Nutty Professor, Empire Falls, Mr. & Mrs. Bridge, Lean on Me, Beverly Hills Cop 3, Boomerang and I Am Legend, as well as 100 Centre Street for television. She has worked with such talented directors as James Ivory, Sidney Lumet, Wes Craven, Betty Thomas, Alejandro Gomez, Frank Oz and Francis Lawrence. Paul Newman, Halle Berry, Joanne Woodward, Robin Wright Penn, Eddie Murphy, Kevin James and Don Cheadle, to name a few, have counted on Van Lierop to make them camera-ready.
