Member Profile: Benj Whitehouse
Benj Whitehouse, Senior Vice President/Business Development at Axium International, Inc., is both a NYWIFT member and supporter. Axium is a NYWIFT Corporate Partner “Super Star.”
Whitehouse is committed to assisting New York City independent productions, as well as advising out-of-state production companies that shoot in New York. His wide-range of expertise includes major studio procedures, independent freelance production accounting, computer technology and payroll company operations.
His first job with the company was as a consultant to Axium’s production accounting software users. He was promoted to Vice President and three years later temporarily relocated to Vancouver, where he reorganized Axium’s British Columbia office. While in Canada, Whitehouse also developed business for the company’s Toronto office.
It all started when Whitehouse, a native Californian, began his first production finance-related job at Lorimar Studios, where he set up and processed payments. He moved on to the payroll department, where he learned more about union and guild payroll on such shows as Dallas, Knots Landing, Full House and many other Lorimar series and pilots.
Later, he was asked to freelance for New World Television on The Wonder Years and Tour of Duty, among others. During hiatus from these programs, Whitehouse gained more experience by assisting some of LA’s top accountants on feature films in the city and shoots around the U.S.
Whitehouse graduated to full Production Accountant, working on small features for many companies including New Line Cinema, NBC Productions and Quintex, as well as various television series for Sid and Marty Krofft Productions. During this time he also developed Rysher Entertainment’s Production Finance Department.
Before joining Axium, he worked with various local producers and production companies in New York.
