“American Jesus,” a feature length, personal documentary, is a portrait of American faith and the challenges that test and stretch what we believe and why. Diagnosed at forty-three with early onset Parkinson’s disease, filmmaker Coleman Hough, takes us on a personal journey as she travels from her native South across the country in search of a medical and spiritual cure.

The story begins in South Carolina, where filmmaker Coleman Hough, haunted by the Jesus of her childhood, and driven by living with a degenerative illness (at 44 she was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson's disease), asks the question, “Who is Jesus?” to open a broader dialogue about faith and life’s seemingly insurmountable challenges.

The remarkably candid answers from a diverse selection of people (believers, non believers, scholars, spiritual leaders, and people living with chronic illness) reveal a tender humanity and potentially surprising beliefs about Jesus in present day America.
