Member Profile: Judith James
Judith James
is a film, television and theatrical producer and partner with Richard Dreyfuss in
Dreyfuss/James Productions. She was instrumental in brokering a three-year alliance between Women in Film (WIF) and General Motors. During the partnership, which ends in 2007, GM will sponsor a myriad of WIF programs and events at its 17 US chapters.
She is currently producing a horror/thriller,
The Forest
, which wrapped principal photography in the foothills of the Himalayas in January. Written and directed by Academy-Award® nominee Ashyin Kumar, the film will be completed in September and sold by Arclight.
Originally a producer of 11 award-winning plays (as Judith Rutherford Marechal), James’ first foray into television was the Emmy-winning,
In Her Own Words
. She co-produced (with Camille Cosby)
Having Our Say: The Delany Sisters First 100 Years
on Broadway, as well as subsequent tours and the television film for CBS. The film, starring Ruby Dee and Diahann Carroll, received the coveted Peabody Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism.
James was an executive producer of
Quiz Show
and a producer of
Mr. Holland’s Opus
and
Trigger Happy
(starring Richard Dreyfuss, Jeff Goldblum, Gabriel Byrne, Diane Lane and Ellen Barkin).She has produced movies for HBO, TNT, ABC and CBS. James also has served as a consulting producer on Dreyfuss’ films.
She is in pre-production for the independent film,
Day of Fear
(with Woody Harrelson), which will shoot in South Africa.
James is also co-developing a Broadway musical play about Pearl Bailey,
Raw Pearl,
with Bill and Camille Cosby and Viva Productions.
