New York Women in Film & Television Welcomes Alexis Alexanian as Its New Board President

New York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT), which has supported the advancement of women in the entertainment industry for 35 years, announces Alexis Alexanian as its new president of the board of directors, as well as the election of five new board members. Alexanian is an award-winning independent film and television producer.

NYWIFT also recognizes the contributions of outgoing board president Alex Levi, co-founder and managing partner of Element Financial Group, a financial advisory firm for the media and entertainment industries.

Alexanian (Producer, Pieces of April, Tadpole, The Hottest State) has been an active part of NYWIFT for eight years and served on the board as the VP of Development. She brings over 20 years of experience in the motion picture industry as well as her recent fundraising work to NYWIFT. Alexanian served as an Award Committee juror for the 2011 Tribeca Film Institute Sloan Filmmaker Fund and as a Tribeca Film Institute Mentor for Sloan Award–winning filmmakers.

“I am thrilled that Alexis will be leading NYWIFT’s board,” said NYWIFT Executive Director Terry Lawler. “The depth and breadth of her film and television experience will help guide NYWIFT as it enters its 35th year of supporting women calling the shots.”

The new board members are Alexis Alexanian, Board President; Amanda Lin Costa, Communications Director; Robyn Watson, Communications Director; Marica Chacona, Membership Director; Simone Pero, Special Events Director; and Caren Spruch, Special Events Director

They join an esteemed group of industry leaders already serving on NYWIFT’s board: Esmee Einerson, VP/Communications; Anne Hubbell, VP/Development; Anna Gerb, VP/Membership; Iri Greco, VP/Programming; Susan Steiger, VP/Special Events; Octavia T. Taylor, Secretary; Eileen Newman, Treasurer; Marivonne Basten, Development Director; Christina Brown, Development Director; Susan Sheppard, Membership Director; Thea Kerman, Programming Director; Ylana Kellar, Programming Director; and Marsha S. Brooks, Legal Counsel.

Alexis Alexanian is an independent film and television producer. She started her career in production on big-budget studio films, including A League of Their Own, Mississippi Burning, Bonfire of the Vanities and Striptease. Alexanian is the co-founder, along with her brother David, of Elixir Films, an independent production company dedicated to character-driven, passion projects for film and television. At Elixir, she produced the international TV series Long Way Round, featuring Ewan McGregor, which aired on Bravo, as well as Ethan Hawke’s The Hottest State, released in 2007. Prior to Elixir, she co-founded, along with Gary Winick, InDigEnt (Independent Digital Entertainment), New York’s groundbreaking digital initiative funded by the Independent Film Channel (IFC) and dedicated to producing low-budget, talent-driven features. While at InDigEnt, Alexanian produced Sundance favorites Pieces of April, Tadpole, Tape, Chelsea Walls and Personal Velocity, which garnered her an Independent Spirit Award.
