THE LURE

The lure of intimacy. The thrill of violence. No other art form chronicles experience like film does. Living through experiences, our better judgement might tell us to avoid, we can come to understand the threshold of our desires, and perhaps, in a world bent on damage, find how to embrace wonder and grief, sex and love, despite the many failed attempts, wrong turns, and misunderstandings along the way.

Initially inspired by my own experiences in the mysterious and wonderful other worlds of kendo (Japanese Samurai fencing) and experimental media, I was inspired by the visual and kinetic metaphor of 'the way of the sword', to express my understanding of the practice of art and life: of life in all its ecstasy, absurdity and meaningfulness, and mend the relationships to give us the power to reconnect to the world. Film - luscious, lavish and real, is the perfect medium for the silent determination to live.
