CROSSING OUR BORDERS
By Gladys Bensimon

CROSSING OUR BORDERS is a three-part, 90 minute documentary series, that centers on the dramatic lives of several individuals whose dreams have been shattered by the plunder of corruption and crime in government. Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez’s crippling corruption, homicide and economic devastation is just one example. Thousands of Venezuelans have been forced to try to escape the country, joining with the very poor from other Latin-American nations, fleeing to uncertain situations in the United States.

The series attempts to simplify the topic into four main themes: the terms of corruption that exist in many Latin American countries and the progress and hope in nations such as Brazil and Chile. The documentary also examines drug trade, para-military oppression, bribery, false judiciary, grinding poverty.  Included is a look at the history of the roots of corruption in colonial times, and the devastating consequences to the US economy as a result of illegal immigration and drug infiltration through the borders.  Several on-camera interviews will be conducted with the people who face these harsh realities in their daily lives.
