Power Player Breakfast: Amy Entelis, EVP, Talent/Content Development, CNN
Event: Thursday Apr. 6, 2017

The Power Player Breakfast Series brings women at the top of their career game to NYWIFT for intimate, inspiring discussions on their current projects, working their ways to the top and other exciting industry insights!

At a time when news outlets are themselves newsworthy, it seems especially timely to welcome Amy Entelis of CNN as April’s Power Player Breakfast speaker. Come hear this highly accomplished executive discuss the challenges and triumphs that brought her to the top of her profession.

As Executive VP for Talent and Content Development for CNN Worldwide since 2013, Entelis heads program development and acquisitions, as well as the identification and recruitment of on-air talent.

Under her leadership, CNN launched three non-fiction content brands: CNN Films, which co-produces and acquires films for distribution at festivals and in theaters; CNN Films Presents, which acquires features for broadcast; and CNN Original Series.

Entelis and her team have developed more than 20 series, garnering numerous Emmy®, Peabody and IDA awards. Among these are Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown, Morgan Spurlock Inside Man, The Sixties, The Seventies, The Eighties, United Shades of America, The Hunt with John Walsh, and The Wonder List with Bill Weir. Other groundbreaking hits include This is Life with Lisa Ling, Somebody’s Got to Do It, Race to the White House, and Declassified: Untold Stories of American Spies. These shows were executive produced by such prestigious figures as Sundance Productions, Tom Hanks, and Kevin Spacey. Upcoming shows include Soundtracks: Songs That Made History, Believer with Reza Aslan, The History of Comedy, and The Nineties.

CNN Films has acquired, co-produced, or commissioned over 30 films by high-profile directors, including Blackfish, Our Nixon, Life Itself, Ivory Tower, Dinosaur 13, Whitey: United States of America v. James J. Bulger, Documented, Blackface, All-American Family, The Hunting Ground, and Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine.

Entelis seeks partnerships that extend non-fiction storytelling beyond the screen. Her team acquired the award-winning film 9/11 and its update, 9/11: Fifteen Years Later, preserving the film archive for future generations. Their co-production We Will Rise: Michelle Obama’s Mission to Educate Girls Around the World empowers women and girls. CNN Films, along with Tribeca Film Festival and others host an annual retreat supporting the next generation of documentarians.

Entelis began her career as a producer on ABC’s 20/20, and then on World News Tonight. Over 30 years at ABC News, she worked her way up to SVP for Talent Strategy, Development, and Research, with a mandate to develop women and minorities for on-air positions. She earned many prestigious honors including an Emmy®, the DuPont-Columbia Award, and the Planned Parenthood Award. Entelis received an M.S. in journalism from Columbia University.
