Marta Mondelli was born in Napoli, Italy and raised in Bologna. She graduated in Ancient History at the University of Bologna and in acting at the European Theater School of Bologna. In Italy she appeared as a protagonist in productions of her theater company, Chie'discena, from 1999 to 2001. She also performed in movies: Quore (2000), Stai con me (2001) with Giovanna Mezzogiorno and Adriano Giannini. She moved to New York in 2002 and since then she has been studying acting with Susan Batson and performing in several short student films and independent movies, among others Crossing (2002) with Anthony Mackie, Come Away with Me (2003) with the Italian actress Mariangela Melato, The Groomsmen (2005) with Brittany Murphy and Ed Burns. She had leading roles in several off-off Broadway productions: The Papaleo Case, at the Theater for the New City, The Hole in the Bathroom Floor for the Samuel French Festival, Eduardo in Poetry at the Bernie West Theater, in the off-Broadway show Box of Fools at the HERE Arts Center in New York, and Tosca e Le Altre Due, by Franca Valeri at the Cell Theater. As screenwriter, she was semifinalist at the Screenplay Festival 2005 with the dramas Eve's Story. Her last screenplay, the dark comedy The Contenders, is her debut as a feature film director. Her movie was accepted at the Salento International Film Festival 2009, LA Film Festival 2009, Sguardi Altrove Film Festival 2010 and won the Aloha Accolade Award for Excellence in Filmmaking at the Honolulu Film Festival 2010. It is currently being considered for distribution.
